A Blast From the Past - Walking Through the Walled City of Bikaner

About the walk

Depending on what you’ve heard, Bikaner to you could mean Bhujiya (the famous spicy savoury), or the land that gave Rajasthan the tradition of the female folk (Maand) singers. Located in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, the 530-year-old walled city of Bikaner is a dense urban settlement with narrow streets, opulently decorated courtyard houses (known as havelis, which characterise the historic centre of the city), winding lanes, traditional bazaars and colourful handicrafts. Through our carefully designed heritage walk, we aim to explore the diverse and varied architecture, art, religious places, living crafts and culture of Bikaner.

A special feature of Bikaner is the vibrant old city, comprising numerous havelis, prols (self-contained neighborhoods), chowks (squares) and chabutras (for feeding birds).

This guided tour is free.
