Celebrating World Heritage Day - Temples and Memorials of Pune’s Wagholi

About the walk

The town of Wagholi, located at a distance of 20 kilometres from Pune, is home to the Vagheshvar Temple. Nearby, in the historical Charholi Budruk area, is the memorial of Pilaji Jadhavrao.

In spite of being so close to the city of Pune, the history of these places is easily overlooked. Little do we know about the valiant warrior Pilaji Jadhavrao, and his heroic deeds in the 18th century. Built in stone and adorned with carvings, these architectural marvels are waiting to be explored by history enthusiasts.

If you are curious to learn more about why his memorial was built at this location, and about the peculiarities of its architecture, join us on this walk as we travel back into the history of Wagholi, and explore these ancient sites.

This guided tour is free.
