Celebrating World Music Day - At the Legendary Tansen’s Abode

About the walk

Regarded as one of the most important figures of Indian classical music, Tansen was one of the 'nine gems' in the court of the Mughal emperor Akbar. It was believed that his music had magical effectsit could bring rain and even enchant animals.

Tansen was a student of Mohammad Ghaus, who trained him in Hindustani classical music. He was a proponent of Dhrupad style and developed the Gwalior Gharana.  He was buried close to his guru, and this site is a peaceful and lovely piece of architecture. So on the occasion of World Music Day, let us take a walk at the tomb of Tansen, and pay tribute to the legendary musician.

This walk aims to acquaint students with the history of Tansen, the architecture of the tomb, and the Gwalior Gharana.

This is a custom walk for the students of Government Madhav Music and Art College, Laskar, Gwalior. This walk is not open to others.
