Exploring the Indo-Saracenic Facades of Baroda Museum

About the walk

Spend a morning exploring the intricate facades of the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery. Join us as we discover the harmonious amalgamation of different styles of architecture. The walls of the museum still echo notes of wildness fused with great sensibility. The Baroda Museum stands as a testimony to the Modern Museum Movement, a major heroic move by Sayajirao Gaekwad III. The walk will unfold various architectural connections and iconic elements derived from Mughal, Rajput and European styles. The monument brings alive the journeys of renowned scholars who worked to exhibit the current collections. The artefacts are accompanied by majestic Indo-Saracenic architecture, and the glory of the museum building is evident through the 100-year-old wooden framed truss and lively façade. The sketch tour will unfold several niches of classical design with regard to its perspectives with all facades, and create a new sensibility of monument sketching. The unique characteristics of the museum define it as a majestic monument lending Baroda its modern identity.

Let us together form a group to sketch our own perspectives of heritage buildings. At the end of the walk, we will together exhibit and discuss the ideas and drawings of each participant.

This guided tour is free.
