Exploring the Portuguese Architecture of Fontainhas

About the walk

Fontainhas offers the visitors the chance to walk through history, and discover the Portuguese colonial period in Goa. Fontainhas which means “little fountain” derives its name from the little fountain at the foot of the hill. Fontainhas hold a unique distinction of being one of the oldest and the largest Latin quarter of Asia.  We begin our walk at the historic tobacco square.  We then walk into the past through the narrow lanes narrating the history.  The lanes of Fontainhas have vibrant coloured houses which display’s the amazing Portuguese architecture.  To enjoy the Portuguese culture in a matter of hours there is no better place than to walk around this area.  It’s a fascinating experience and also fun, as the historical area is peppered with places to eat and drink.
