Gurusaday Museum - Celebrating the Folk Art of Bengal

About the walk

The Gurusaday Museum houses treasures from the personal collection of Gurusaday Dutt. Besides being the site for the establishment of the legendary Bengal Bratachari Samity, the extensive collection of the museum has over 3000 artworks/artefacts, which includes 16th century Bengali manuscripts, original Kalighat Pats,  tribal masks, a vast collection of various kantha styles from pre-partition Bengal, as well as rare archaeological finds, dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. 

On this walk, we shall cover the folk and tribal artwork sections of the museum, and also learn about the recent difficulties that it has been facing. This walk is in collaboration with the Save Gurusaday Museum campaign.

Soumyadeep Roy
Soumyadeep Roy: A visual artist and a writer, he has exhibited his works locally as well as internationally, Soumyadeep’s interests are history through the lens of Art, culture, migration, and religion. He is a heritage enthusiast and has been travelling in India and other parts of the world with rich art histories. He is an alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta and Jadavpur University.
