The Hidden Gem Of Baner

About the walk

Baner is a suburb of western Pune. It serves as one of the main approach roads for the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. The village of Baner used to be known for its agriculture and its Warkari community. What was once a village is now an uptown suburb of Pune.

This walk aims to throw light on the heritage of Baner Hill and its rapidly disappearing flora. The natural heritage of Baner Hill was greatly affected by Pune’s IT boom. However, this locality hasn't forgotten its roots and is proud of its rich culture and heritage. Its various temples—including the famous cave temple on Baner Hill—bear witness to this statement. Let us explore the hill and discover how this village began to lose its flora and fauna to rapid urbanisation.

This guided tour is free.
