Celebrating World Heritage Week - A Walk Through the Churches of Colonial Calcutta

About the walk

Come and Join Sahapedia’s 500th Walk

One of the most important heritage zones of the city, Dalhousie Square stands as a testament to the history of the last three centuries. The tomb of Job Charnock, credited, arguably, as the founder of the city of Calcutta, lies in the precincts of St. John’s Church. The history and mythology of Bengal in the 1700s are also scattered over the area. Through this journey of Calcutta and its colonial past in the 18th and 19th centuries, we shall discuss the different stories and experiences of the time. We will begin the walk with St. Andrew’s Church and end at St. John’s Church, also exploring the other colonial structures on the way.

This guided tour is free.
