Standing tall with a 7-tiered gopuram, the Sri Thyagaraja Temple in Tiruvottiyur draws a parallel with the magnificent temple of Tiruvarur. Inscriptions left behind by the Pallavas, Cholas and Vijayanagaras hail this temple as a prominent centre of learning, where religious discourses and discussions on philosophy were conducted. Sung of by three of the most prominent Nayanar Saiva saints - Appar, Sundarar and Sambandhar, this iconic temple played host to modern-age saints including Pattinathar, Topeswamigal and Ramalinga Swamigal. Join us as we discover the vibrant history and mythology behind this temple, observe the religious traditions that make it a replica of the Tiruvarur temple, and unravel the connection between these two temples.
