Exploring the Transformation of Canning Road to MG Marg

About the walk

The arterial road of colonial Allahabad has undergone various transformations in the last 160 years. From villages that were razed to the grounds by the British in retaliation to the First Battle of Independence to ‘Cannington’, a well-planned white town that was popularly known as the ‘Civil Lines’, Allahabad had seen it all. Let us explore this part of the erstwhile colonial city and reflect on the changes that have emerged over the years, while we discover the hidden stories buried underneath this road.  This walk will help us view and understand what remains of the market and the colonial past in its present avtar.
