Gardens and Forests in Indian Mythology - A Walk Through Leisure Valley

About the walk

Gardens and forests have formed beautiful backdrops to many mythological stories and have had a close connection with the Indian way of life. Different trees and plants are significant in various ways in the local tradition. Traditionally, three categories of forest life are: prosperity-granting forests, called “Shri Van”; a place for sages to contemplate and meditate, named “Tapo Van”; and the great natural forests where all species of life find shelter, “Maha Van”.

Let us take a walk through the city-dwelling sister of our forests in Leisure Valley, Chandigarh, and identify the trees that are deeply connected to our heritage.

This guided tour is free.
