Mahankaleshwar Temple - Exploring Ujjain’s Sacred Shrine

About the walk

Ujjain, also considered as the 'City of Temples', has its own historical interests. Pilgrims from all over the world gather here for the very famous 'Ujjain Simhastha' or 'Ujjain Kumbh Mela' held every 12 years.

Of all the temples, the Mahankaleshwar Temple dedicated to Shiva, the Lord of Time, is considered the most important site. The temple houses the largest Lingam of the 12 Jyotirlingams found in India.

The walk will begin by delving into a rich repository of myths and legends associated with the city and temple, while we explore the artefacts and wall paintings in the premises of the temple. In this walk, let’s take ourselves back to the ancient times!

This guided tour is free.
