A Museum Walk and interactive Session at the Houses of Goa Museum

About the walk

The Houses of Goa Museum is tucked away in the scenic locality of Torda, Salvador-do-Mundo, North Goa. Founded and developed by famous architect Gerard da Cunha, the Museum showcases a historical overview of the material and built culture that came about as a result of the region’s encounter with the Portuguese. Goan architecture is unique because of this beautiful amalgamation of Portuguese influences, local aesthetics and indigenous building techniques.

The architectural story unfolds across three levels of this charming ship-like building set on a steep hill road. The first level depicts Goa in the context of the world, followed by a display of a wide range of designs found within Goan architecture. The second floor delves into the details of Goan architecture: the doors, windows, railings, construction material, furniture, etc. The uppermost level of the museum showcases the final amalgamation of the Goan-Portuguese style.
