A Museum Walk and Storytelling Session at Strand Road

About the walk

This event is ticketed.

Our journey will start from the Strand. Built between 1840-1844 in the neoclassic, Greek revivalist style, the building originally housed the Calcutta Public Library. Today, it accommodates a two-storied exhibition that celebrates the soul of Calcutta. Walkthrough the mixed-media installations and prints from yesteryears.

We will then walk past historical buildings that were built by the then rulers of this young city, the East India Company. Next, we will understand and photograph the workings of money at the state of the art, RBI Museum.

To conclude the walk, we will step into the erstwhile Agra and Masterman’s Bank. The building houses 2 strong rooms which were used to hold gold, silver, and currency when the building served as the Reserve Bank of India. The museum housed within it today displays art from 18th -20th Century Bengal. A special treat for photographers is an ongoing exhibition by Nemai Ghosh.
