About the walk

The walk leader will first take us to the sehen or the courtyard of the big mosque. The first 20 minutes will be spent analyzing the significance of the location and the architectural languageis of the mosque with respect to Shahjahanabad in the seventeenth century as well as in contemporary times. The walk leader will then take us through Gate no. 1 and, while descending the steps, the participants will be introduced to Urdu Bazar and Matia Mahal. This walk is a sensory delight, where participants will be fascinated by the area’s historical legacy. Do not miss this walk for anything!

Huma Naaz
Huma is a confident and multi-talented trainee walk leader who was part of the Sahapedia-BCF Heritage Walk Training Programme for Women from Shelter Homes in Delhi. She lives in the populated Seelampur area of Delhi. She works with the Azad Foundation as a member of the field staff and helps them reach out to people. From a very young age she supported her family by stitching clothes and working as a beautician. She is currently pursuing her graduation in social work.

  • Please wear comfortable walking shoes and carry water and an umbrella or raincoat. You will have to remove your shoes before entering the mosque, so choose your footwear accordingly. Carry a scarf/cap to cover your head. Avoid shorts and knee-length or sleeveless attire. Maintain decorum in the shrine.
