Shivratri Celebrations: Fast to feast

About the walk

Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival celebrated across India on the new moon day in the month of Maagha (Hindu calendar). There are many mythological legends associated with it. One such lore believes that the festival marks the sacred union of Shiva and Parvati, while another lore associates the celebration of Shiva as the savior of mankind based on the mythological story of ‘the Churning of the Ocean’.

Whatever be the legend associated with the festival, the fast and the feast are a must. And what better way to experience the celebrations than a visit to the Loknath Temple at Allahabad.

This Shivratri, let us witness the procession that goes to Katyayani Devi Temple to see Lord Shiva wed Goddess Parvati. Not to forget the lavish spread of what we call falahaar or non-grain food.
