Celebrating International Museum Day - Archaeology Section of Indian Museum

About the walk

The Indian Museum was founded in 1814. It is the earliest and the largest multipurpose museum not only in the Indian subcontinent, but also in the Asia-Pacific region. Out of all the sections in the museum, the most talked about one is the archaeology section. This section displays sculptures from Maurya and Sunga periods, architectural remains from Bharhut and Bodh Gaya, sculptures from the Gandhara school of art and Kushana, Gupta, Pala-Sena, Chandela, Hoysala, Chola, and Pallava periods including the display of some South East Asian sculptures.
