Trailing through the Forgotten Neighbourhood of Old Fort

About the walk

This event is ticketed.

Did you know that the surrounding area of Purana Qila is scattered with neglected monuments of great historic value?

This walk aims to explore the lesser known buildings of the neighbourhood of the Old Fort or Purana Qila, which was the capital city of second Mughal emperor, Humayun, and was extended by Sher Shah Suri in the sixteenth century. The neighbourhood has mainly sacred structures and a few public buildings which also have fascinating stories and legends to tell us. The walk includes buildings such as a   mosque named Khairul Manazil, constructed during Akbar’s time; Sher Shah Gate, entrance to the city of Shergarh; the tomb of Bedil in Bagh-e-Bedil, one of the greatest Persian poets; the thirteenth-century tomb of the mystic Sheikh Nuruddin; and Matka Pir Dargah.  We end the walk outside the Crafts Museum, opposite to which lies Bhairon mandir, dedicated to one of the forms of Lord Shiva.

After the walk, the participants can also visit Cafe Lota within the Crafts Museum which is an ideal place for brunch.
