A Visit to Bapu’s Home

About the walk

During the time that Gandhiji was experimenting with the values of simple living, he shifted his home from Kochrab to a humble place on the banks of the Sabarmati river, which was right in the middle of the Sabarmati Jail and Crematorium, the two places where most satyagrahis ended up. Sabarmati Ashram served as the power centre to strategise the freedom struggle and remained Bapu's home till 1930, when Bapu began the Salt Satyagraha and pledged never to return until India achieved total independence and he never did. This site draws thousands of visitors every year, not only to peek into his life and his values but also to introspect.

Let’s take a walk and listen to the intriguing tales of the life of the Mahatma.

This guided tour is free.
