About the walk

G.G. Swell Museum is located in Laitkynsew, about 67 kms from the capital city of Shillong. George Gilbert Swell (5 August 1923 – 25 January 1999), born at Laitkynsew, was a college professor, an Indian politician, an ambassador to several countries, a former Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha and member from Shillong in MeghalayaTo honour George Gilbert Swell, his daughter, Lakyntiew Lyngdoh established a museum in 2016 which houses photographs, artefacts, and documentary films of his life and career. His contribution to the formation of the state of Meghalaya and breaking away from Assam was undeniable. And just like other leaders who fought for the freedom of the country, he too fought for the freedom of the state.
