A Walk Through the Galleries of Shimla's State Museum

About the walk

Shimla, in Himachal Pradesh, is a beautiful city that is surrounded by seven hills. This little place grew to prominence during the British era and is known for its beauty and architecture. Most of the structures in Shimla were built when it served as the summer capital of the British empire. Close to the heart of the city, the Mall, lies the State Museum, which was inaugurated back in 1976. The museum is a testament to the cultural diversity and historical significance of the city. The museum is divided into several galleries, namely Archaeology, Photography, Wood Carving, Bronze, Prehistoric, Miniature Paintings, Pahari Paintings, etc. An entire gallery is dedicated to attire and jewellery of the state, and another devoted to India's armed forces. It also houses a library which stores old manuscripts, and books on history and archaeology.

The walk shall be directed towards discovering the hidden and lesser-known stories of Shimla.

This guided tour is free.
