Celebrating World Heritage Day - A Visit to Ever Living Museum

About the walk

Ever Living Museum, in Mawshbuit, is located about nine kilometres away from Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya. It is owned and operated by Mr Kyntiewbor War, a retired engineer who worked for the Government of Meghalaya. The museum has three components: the main museum, the stone museum and a garden which has wild orchids, wild flowers and wild fruits.

The main museum houses miniature tree huts of the Garo tribe and bamboo huts of the Khasi tribe, traditional dresses and ornaments of the different tribes of Meghalaya, household items, jewellery and ornaments of the tribes of Meghalaya, craft items, glass bottles of different shapes and designs, and old Indian and foreign currencies and coins collected by Mr Kyntiewbor War.

The other room houses different kinds of stones collected from in and around Meghalaya, as well as Italy and other places. Shells, gemstones, fossils, and so on, are also on display at the museum.

 

 

This is a custom walk for the students of St. Mary's College, History Department, Shillong. This walk is not open to others.
