About the Talk

This baithak will explore the growing popularity of Indian languages in the media and how publications in indigenous languages are gaining a wider audience,  how the Indian language news media, especially the newspapers, is getting stronger unlike the news publications in the West. The lecture will give a broad overview of the Indian -language press across the country, and explain the role leading newspapers have played in the social-political-sociopolitical and cultural spheres in their respective states. We will focus on the Marathi press and how the Marathi language is being used by the newspapers today.

This baithak is in collaboration with Heritage India Communications Pvt. Ltd., an organisation that, for the last 12
