Prayagraj Fort - A Edifice of Unrivalled Craftsmanship

About the walk

Every piece of architecture is of course symbolic in its own right, as well. Buildings carry encoded within their shape a whole wealth of significance and meaning. Any structure represents all sorts of information regarding its patron or inhabitant’s wealth, status, taste, history and circumstance. Prayagraj Fort being one the biggest fort of early modern period tells the legacy of the exquisite culture of India. In the 16th century world, while western architecture style was developing more under utilitarian and functional ideas with built spaces, the city of confluence was witnessing opulence, beauty and military engineering synthesised all together in this grand fort built by Mughal emperor, Akbar. 

For the next few centuries, this fort represented the plight of mighty Mughals as well as the exquisite culture of Ganga-Jamuni existence. The walk will start at the Fort entrance, then covering the Akshayavat tree, Patalpuri entrance, Patalpuri Temple from pre Mughal era and end at the Hathi Gate. Join us on this heritage walk of Prayagraj Fort where we will be exploring the monument and talk about the construction details and symbolism in its architectural form and understand the cultural richness of the city. 

This guided tour is free and is a physical walk.

  • Mandatory to carry sanitizer and wear the mask. Safe distance to be maintained with other participants during the walk. 
  • In order to enter the temple and the mosque, it is advisable to wear clothes that are fully covered. Also, cover your heads in these sacred spaces.
  • Please carry a bottle of water and wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • You may carry your cameras, notebooks to record thoughts and memories.
  • The fee for monument tickets and photography to be borne by the participant.
