Remembering the 1857 Rebellion and its Hero Turrebaz Khan

About the walk

After the Revolt of 1857 began, the state of Hyderabad, in spite of having good relations with the British, witnessed rebellions as well. More specifically, it was the Rohillas (Afghans) who attacked the British Residency (now Koti Women's College), the seat of colonial power in Hyderabad.

The Afghans, under the leadership of Maulana Alauddin and Turrebaz Khan, attacked the British Residency, scaring the colonisers in the nizam’s dominion. The unsuccessful attack eventually led to the British raising the walls of the residency. This event also enshrined Turrebaz Khan’s name in Hyderabad’s history.

So, come join us to learn more about Hyderabad’s role in the 1857 rebellion.
