Of Serenity and Faith - Sri Ram Rai Gurudwara

About the walk

An excellent example of the synthesis of Islamic and Hindu architecture, the Sri Ram Rai Gurudwara was established in the 17th century by Guru Ram Rai, the eldest son of Sri Har Rai, the seventh Sikh guru. Situated at a distance of 500 metres from Dehradun Railway Station, the Sri Ram Rai Gurudwara is a famous centre of pilgrimage for Sikhs.

Join us on this walk around Dehradun and learn how Guru Ram Rai procured Emperor Aurangzeb’s help to build the gurudwara. This walk will also explore aspects of Hindu and Islamic architecture, the importance of the Jhanda Fair as well as the emergence and cultural relevance of Sikhism.

Please Note

  • Please do not carry valuables and food items.
  • You will have to remove your shoes before entering the premises of the gurudwara, so choose your footwear accordingly.
  • As we will be visiting a shrine, dress accordingly and maintain decorum. Girls' clothes should cover their knees.
  • You may carry your cameras and notebooks. Carry an umbrella or raincoat.                                                                                                                                        
  • Photography is not allowed inside the gurudwara but participants can take photos from outside.
  • No entry fee.
  • Parking available at the meeting point.
