Shaan - e - Shahjahani - Shahjahanabad of Bhopal

About the walk

Not to be confused with Delhi's old city, Bhopal also has its own historic city of Shahjahanabad, built by Sultan Shah Jahan Begum in the mid-1800s. The walk will start from Gol Ghar, which has now been converted into a museum for Bhopal’s cultural heritage. Then we will proceed to Bab-e-Ali Cricket Stadium, which is constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture and the home ground for many Bhopali cricketers. The road leads us to a picturesque view of the Taj-ul-Masajid, with the Motia Talab in the foreground. Here we will pause to talk about water management in the old city. We will also pass by the Benazir Palacethe summer capital of the Bhopal Estate.

We will then walk by the Taj-ul-Masajid Library and Alexandria Middle School. From there we will finally reach the Taj-ul-Masajid, a grand landmark of Bhopal which was started in 1848 but could only be completed in the 1970s by crowdfunding.

The guided tour is free.
