About the walk

College Street is a unique place. Where else would you find an entire street dedicated to books? This famous road is also lined by elite educational institutions that have been standing tall and proud for almost two centuries. An intellectual and political hub since the late nineteenth century, College Street continues to uphold this lofty legacy. However, highbrow discussions can’t take place on an empty stomach. Thus, food forms an integral part of the area. The late nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries saw the emergence of food joints and eateries that, besides satisfying the taste buds of their customers, also served as a vibrant public spheres for animated discussions and heated debates on social and political issues. Some of them even served as hideouts for revolutionaries.
