Luciano Pavarotti once said, ‘One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.’

Although the city of Banaras is most famous for its culture and temples, it is also quite well known for its food. This walk will explore the old city of Banaras and discover the stories related to its traditional delicacies. On this walk we will also ask questions like, ‘Why is Kachauri Galli named so?’,What is Banarasi paan?’ and many more. From parathas and samosas to rabdi and cham-cham, join this walk to discover the new tastes and flavours of the old city of Banaras.

Yash hails from Varanasi. He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in English from Banaras Hindu University. His parents' interest in the arts and cultures has shaped his desire to meet new people and learn about their cultures. He is fascinated by history and archaeology, and has been an avid reader and writer since a young age—writing poems and essays aboout things he observes. He also enjoys photography.

Please Note

  • Please reach the meeting point on time as the old city area gets crowded.
  • Food expenses are to be borne by the participant (approx. 150-200 rupees, though this amount may vary).
  • Paid parking facilities are available at Shahpuri Mall, Gyanvapi. This expense (10 rupees for two hours) is to be borne by the participant. The parking facility is 100 metres away from the meeting point.
  • Please maintain decorum as the locality is old and the people there are orthodox. Keep your voice low close to private property.
  • Please wear proper walking shoes and carry a water bottle and an umbrella or raincoat.
  • Photography is allowed.
