Kolkata’s Old Chinatown, or Tirreti Bazaar, is one of the city’s chief attractions for visitors. Being the only Chinatown of this kind in India, Tirreti Bazaar safeguards a part of Kolkata’s unparalleled cultural legacythat of the Chinese immigrants. The city has been home to a bustling Chinese-Indian community since the early 19th century, which, at some point, was 20,000 strong but now has lessened to about 2000.
