Kalyan emerged as a Maratha settlement in the 17th century when Sardar Ramji Biwalkar built the first temple with a water structure in the front yard welcoming the regional level pilgrimage along with the many diverse communities from remote areas. Though Kalyan is primarily known for its temples, it is also dotted with wadas in the typical Konkani style and water structures. The wadas evoke the culture of the respective communities that built them and the water structures (kunds) and temples represent the religious bond that the settlement built traditionally.
This walk reveals the different typologies associated with these structures and discuss not only the historical and architectural shades of the city, but also ends with a delicious local cuisine treat!
