Witnessing the Colonial Past and Landmarks of the Northern Ridge

About the walk

North Delhi's Ridge is where the 1857 rebellion played out in a do-or-die battle that decided the fate of India. The Ridge was a major hideout used by the sepoys, and the different landmarks that mark the region stand as a testament to the historic mutiny of 1857. After the mutiny, the crown used the area to demonstrate its authority and as a result, many military and civil settlements came up in the region. This period of turmoil shaped the area, giving it a new meaning. Amidst this bloody and ever-changing history, the Ridge also houses a few other important sites, such as a Tughlaq-era baoli, the hunting lodge of Feroz Shah, and an Ashokan Pillar.
