Sweet, Sour and Everything in Between

About the walk

This experience requires you to open your sense of smell, touch, taste and exploration. We will start by contextualizing the history of spice market in Old Delhi. We will go through various reasons why the extensive markets and trading hubs exist in this place. The history Kari Baoli will be discussed, from when it started to the beginning of the 21st century, and we will be looking at the changes the place has gone through. We will be comparing retail and wholesale trades of this place, known largest spice market in Asia. This experience will also allow us to talk about the individual histories of the spices and herbs, their contested nativity, interesting stories about them, and how you can use them in your life. Our journey will include guessing games where you sample dishes to identify their ingredients. We will discover the art of eating paan at a paan stall. I will also introduce you to pure sandalwood, and tell you why it is a magical herb. Finally, through fun activities, we will revise our knowledge of the spices we would have already interacted with.
