Lake Pichola, mesmerised for its beauty, still carries relics of its history. Interestingly, it is not a natural lake and was built by the Picchu Banjaras (gypsies) in the 1300s. The water was diverted from a tributary of the Kotra River by building a dam across it. The walk will begin at the Jagdish Temple located in the City Palace complex of Udaipur. This was constructed in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture in 1651, and is characterised by its decorated ceilings, painted walls and lush halls. The serenity, as well as the architectural magnificence of the temple, cannot be put into words. The walk will then proceed to Gangaur Ghat. Gangaur Ghat or Gangori Ghat is the main ghat situated near the waterfront of Lake Pichola. Its name was originally taken from the most popular local festival of Udaipur called ‘Gangaur’. The walk will continue through different sites including temples, art shops, havelis and other architectural structures in the streets of the old city. Every nook of every street in Udaipur resonates with ascetic and ethnic values. This City of Lakes is a myriad of colours and a paradise for shoppers. We will also visit the Baghore ki Haveli Museum. This palace has over a hundred rooms, with varied displays of costumes and modern art. The glass and mirrors in the interiors of the palace are of haveli work. The walk will end near the Jheel Ginger Cafe, where we will have coffee and a light conversation.
