A Nature Trail through the Mangroves of Panjim

About the walk

Goa has five major rivers: Chapora, Mandovi, Zuari, Sal and Talpona. There are more than 16 species of mangrove that can be found in the tidal zones along the banks of these rivers. They help in stabilising the coast as well as preventing soil erosion. They also help in protecting the land from surges and cyclonic storms. These mangroves are also home to a host of biodiversity such as birds, insects, crustaceans, fish, etc.

On this walk, we shall explore some of the well-preserved mangroves, see some of the species of birds and butterflies along the river, and learn about protection of mangrove forests. We will also walk on the longest causeway in Asia, built during Portuguese rule.

This guided tour is free.
