About the walk

Mother Teresa Sarani is a street that has undergone dramatic transformations while also keeping pace with the march of time. Popularly known by its colonial name Park Street, it was later renamed by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The name Park Street evokes colourful and vivid images of Christmas lights in the minds of its visitors. Signboards of old restaurants and eateries flash in front of one's eyes. However, the street started its journey as a desolate pathway carrying the coffins of the dead and carriages of the bereaved to the three cemeteries nearby.

This walk will explore the changes in the course of the history of the street, that transformed from the Burial Ground Road to the epicentre of India's nightlife wrapped in splendour and grandeur, and how it went on to take a cosmopolitan identity.

This guided tour is free.
